چکیده

Abstract We measured fatty acids, minerals, and fat-soluble nutrients in liver tissues from greater prairie-chickens Tympanuchus cupido pinnatus as an ecological dietary surrogate for endangered Attwater's T. c. attwateri investigated differences associated with captive (nonreleased raised; n = 4), wild (n 12), combination (released 5) diets. In general, we found more variability across all acids samples released captive-raised birds than either nonreleased or birds. Polyunsaturated were lowest Regarding sodium values uniquely lower birds, copper manganese concentrations both Of the carotenoids that evaluated, β-carotene was livers prairie-chickens. Zeaxanthin raised but nonreleased. Differences hepatic nutrient concentration among three study groups may be directly correlated ingredients. Our results suggest possible management actions improved nutrition of future release programs, such further refinement trace mineral content commercial diets, addition supplemental feeds protocols include elevated polyunsaturated acid profile, green plant materials elevate content, provision mineralized salt sources at sites, timing releases to coincide periods high natural resource availability better duplicate diversity.

Responses of male Greater Prairie-Chickens to wind energy development

Renewable energy resources have received increased attention because of impacts of fossil fuels on global climate change. In Kansas, USA, optimal sites for wind energy development often overlap with preferred habitats of the Greater Prairie-Chicken (Tympanuchus cupido), a lek-mating prairie grouse of conservation concern. We tested for potential effects of energy development on male Greater Pra...

Proximate and fatty acid composition of liver and fatty tissue of patincatfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus)

The visceral storage fat and liver of patin catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) are normally discarded, which incurs cost and can cause environmental pollution. However, these may be potential sources to extract fish oil. The proximate and fatty acid compositions of liver and fatty tissue of patin catfish were investigated to evaluate the suitability of these by-products for extracting fish o...
